Designing a Unicorn Birthday Party Around the Invite
Every party at our house starts with the invitation. Reese found a unicorn clipart image she loved on Etsy and then I designed invite options to get her seal of approval then built the rest of the party around it. Starting with the invite first means everything else falls into place with a cohesive look, and it's such an easy way to make a party feel pulled together without a ton of extra planning- the banner, drink tags, thank you tags and all the little matching details that tie a party together means this cohesive Unicorn party is done for you ✔️
Shop the Unicorn Party Invitation
I try my very hardest to give the kids choices for their parties, and this year it was easy to relinquish control over the theme because it was clear that it was going to be unicorn. This girl is all about pink, sparkles and unicorns. It was really fun to bring the specific elements she requested to this party.

Planning a Unicorn Birthday Party Without the Stress
This was a busy party year for us, between Landon's Construction birthday, my girlfriend's floral bridal shower and our annual favorite things party, we had a packed schedule. I wanted to make sure Reese felt spoiled and special, but this was a year that I let her have a say in a ton of planning because one can only throw so many over the top parties, so I knew this was her year to shine and my year to let it go!
DIY Unicorn Drink Station Wall Ideas & Unicorn Splash Juice Bar
The first detail she picked was the champagne wall that we DIY'd for my girlfriend's bridal shower and this was the show stopper and focal point of the party that we turned into the drink station wall. Pro Hostess Tip: You don't need new decorations for every party you host. It's okay to reuse, reimagine and upcycle! She spent hours in the garage with us as we built this 8 foot drink wall, and you should have seen her face when I said "absolutely" to her request to have it at her party. We turned it into a "juice" bar and she picked swirly unicorn straws, and we reused plastic champagne flutes so the kids could feel fancy without worrying about broken glass... because 6 year olds. We added fruit and she helped name it her "Unicorn Splash" drink.

The weather cooperated enough for us in Seattle for an early fall outdoor birthday party, but unfortunately not enough for the unicorn and rainbow sprinklers. Each kid made one quick run through and immediately decided it was too cold and went back to their clothes to play in the yard. We relied on unicorn bubble wand favors instead and the kids were happy just running around and playing.

Yogurt Parfait Bar: A Sweet Alternative to Ice Cream
By the end of summer and a birthday party every weekend, we were very sugared out this year, so we did something different with a yogurt bar and the kids really enjoyed making their own parfaits while parents enjoyed a lighter option. We gave this station its own moment with the “Always Be a Unicorn” sign.

Easy Unicorn Dessert Table Ideas
With the craziness of this party season, we kept the dessert table simple and went store bought. The cake was from Whole Foods purchased the day before the party and we added a unicorn topper. Here's the thing I want every parent reading this to hear: this dessert table did not need to be over the top to feel magical. A store-bought cake, a few personalized touches, and a banner that ties it all together go a long way.
We used cupcake wrappers from Amazon and Cricut-made toppers to tie everything together. Party Budget Tip Making your own sprinkle mix from leftovers or individual colored sprinkle packs if often way cheaper than custom sprinkle packs and can elevate a store bought dessert to feeling custom without extra cost.
Blowing out candles is one of my favorite moments. At the end of the day, all mama ever wants is a picture with my birthday kiddo and a family photo. Some years we nail it... others we don’t.
